It's probably not the controller, it's just we get sloppy with our inputs sometimes. If a dair comes out and you were trying to bair, then you must have hit down on the c stick, or the A button and down. One piece of advice I always tell people: Melee never lies. Being overwhelmed by spacies who just beat you by being fast doesn't really teach you a lot, so finding people who can play closer to your level will teach you the scenarios you'll come across in the game and once you figure more of those situations out, you will speed up in time. The best advice I can offer you is to try to find players around you on fb, or finding some players on netplay who are around your level. It can definitely help to practice getting fluid combos against them doing random di or something, but it sounds like you need to get experience playing other players. Is it even good for me to only play against 20xx NPCs? What can I do to actively get better at the game? Is it just trying to get faster inputs? More reliant inputs because often times I want to bair and instead the game reads dair. They beat every shine with a shine from them and I can't level up. I play Falco for refference and as soon as I play against Fox / Falco my inputs are getting slower and slower. They move way faster then me they can do way more stuff then I can do. but as soon as I play against Fox or Falco it's too hard. So I only play against NPCs at level 9 on 20xx and it works. There aren't locals in my area and the only one I could go to is at 7am or some early time and I would have to take the train to get there. I have the feeling that I don't become better regardless of how much I play.

So fast forward, since then I play Melee 20XX on my PC with the Gamecube Controller and I stay at my level. I got hooked when I saw Wavedashing and how fast the game is. I played it back then on the Gamecube but I wasn't good at it or anything.
